Clayton Homes, Inc., founded in 1966 and acquired by Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. in 2003.

The Company builds, sells, finances, leases, and insures manufactured and modular homes as well as re-locatable commercial and educational buildings.

Our corporate office is located in Maryville, Tennessee (in the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park).

Clayton Homes, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufactured housing company with 41 manufacturing plants, distributing through 448 company-owned retail outlets, and more than 1300 independent retailers in the country, and provides financing for 325,000 customers and insurance protection for 160,000 families.

Clayton also owns and operates 12 subdivisions. Our finance company, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, Inc., is a leader in manufactured home lending, servicing 325,000 customers with more than $11.0 billion in loans.
